Strategos Series: MOAB2018- USAriadna ITSX

Credit: Jason Heuser

BLUF: 4th out of 16- sabotaged myself by not reading mission scoring.  One minor victory should have been a major and one minor victory WAS a major but not recorded as such (read how the bloody missions score before submitting forms!!) and my one loss could have been mitigated.

My poor mission comprehension cost myself a podium spot.

Never again!

Strategos Series: BATTLE IN THE VINES – MAY 2018- USA Ideas on Maneuver and Attrition

BLUF- Bottom Line Up Front- Came 3rd out of 32 players (?34-36)

Discussion Format

Report- EN list, Deployment, Turn by Turn
Fix- critical failures
Sustain
Improve- done correctly in places but not well.

GLOSSARY

COG- centre of gravity
CC- critical capability
CV- critical vulnerability
EN- enemy
FR- friendly
FLET- forward line of EN troops

The reports are based on memory with the help of some photos gleaned from the Infinity Australia Facebook page.  There will be inconsistences (especially with the photos which were taken at different rounds of the tournament when terrain had been adjusted) that I hope I’ve been able to get around with some labeling.  Knowing how unreliable my memory is, I’ve tried to record it all as accurately as possible but don’t be surprised if some the details don’t add up- the report will really only give you a gist of what happened.

Strategos Series: CanCon2018- Vignettes USARF

Failures that could have been avoided.

Review using philosophies already described previously.

Enemy vs Mission Concept In List Generation

- novel missions

- failed to appreciate the CONTEXTUAL element in the idea of fighting power
- not just the conceptual- i.e. USARF is good at cheap attrition
- not just the physical element- i.e. this model has this profile and is used in this way (CONTEXT changes it's use and thus its importance).

Strategos Series: Cancon 2018- Notes

See the Matrix.

"Cave ab homine unius libri" ("Beware the man of one book")

No two conflicts are exactly the same so history alone will never provide an exact answer to current and future problems. At the same time, the lessons and principles from studying the past will give people the tools they need to analyse problems as they move forward.

… The problem with being too busy to read is that you learn by experience (or by your men’s experience), i.e. the hard way. By reading, you learn through others’ experiences, generally a better way to do business…

“No such thing as ‘lessons learned’.  There are lessons.  It’s only LEARNED when you incorporate it into your (revised) doctrine.”

-       DISCLAIMER:
o   Written to solidify thoughts specific to my experience and my observation of the experiences of the other club members who attended
o   May be irrelevant to you
o   You’re probably a better player than me and don’t require this either

USAriadna Goes to Cancon 2017

Its time to defend that constitution.
Having whelped this 300 point army, it was time to take it to the big leagues (for me!).

I paid for a ticket and travelled to Canberra for CanCon 2017, Australia's "Nationals" for Infinity and what looked like a tonne of other game systems out there.

By this stage I had played seven games with USA... eight if you count that battle report from 2015... but I was dead keen to enter the beauty pageant!

And if getting punished in 5 games over two days against the best in the country is what it takes to get there then by Jove that's what I'll do....

Tournament: MOAB 2015: Return of the Morats

I didn't choose the Soglife, the Soglife chose me.
I'm not a big fan of tournaments because I've found myself pretty crappy at tournament style tight games.  I'm much more suited to casual dice rolling and spending lots of time looking up rules without a time limit.

That being said, there was a call for players and with the TO being a fellow club mate I felt obliged to dive in with my alien ultra-facists.

I had two goals at this tournament- win a painting prize AND not come last.

Yes, this same time last year my Morats came dead last!

MOAB 2014: Is This Real Life? Serious Tournament Play In ITS2014

300 points ITS Spec Ops 12XP
This will be primarily a picture dump with a bit of editorialising as things come to mind.

And to keep you out of your suspense... I came dead last!

Tournament: Total Reaction 3: "The Return of the Combined Army"

Fun times ahead!
This is a departure from my usual blogposts in that it has my first Infinity tournament experience!

It was 250 points (two lists) but no Spec-Ops on ITS2014 variants.

It was held in Melbourne, Australia at the LaTrobe University campus.  It was superbly run and fantastically furnished with terrain (which if I'm not mistaken was generously trucked in and set up by many individuals donating their time and gear!)

Special thanks to the tournament organisers: Christian, Asher and Damien.  I was very impressed with how well it was organised, run and concluded (hilarious awards included!).
