Strategos Series: MOAB2018- USAriadna ITSX

Credit: Jason Heuser

BLUF: 4th out of 16- sabotaged myself by not reading mission scoring.  One minor victory should have been a major and one minor victory WAS a major but not recorded as such (read how the bloody missions score before submitting forms!!) and my one loss could have been mitigated.

My poor mission comprehension cost myself a podium spot.

Never again!

Strategos Series: BATTLE IN THE VINES – MAY 2018- USA Ideas on Maneuver and Attrition

BLUF- Bottom Line Up Front- Came 3rd out of 32 players (?34-36)

Discussion Format

Report- EN list, Deployment, Turn by Turn
Fix- critical failures
Sustain
Improve- done correctly in places but not well.

GLOSSARY

COG- centre of gravity
CC- critical capability
CV- critical vulnerability
EN- enemy
FR- friendly
FLET- forward line of EN troops

The reports are based on memory with the help of some photos gleaned from the Infinity Australia Facebook page.  There will be inconsistences (especially with the photos which were taken at different rounds of the tournament when terrain had been adjusted) that I hope I’ve been able to get around with some labeling.  Knowing how unreliable my memory is, I’ve tried to record it all as accurately as possible but don’t be surprised if some the details don’t add up- the report will really only give you a gist of what happened.

Strategos Series: CanCon2018- Vignettes USARF

Failures that could have been avoided.

Review using philosophies already described previously.

Enemy vs Mission Concept In List Generation

- novel missions

- failed to appreciate the CONTEXTUAL element in the idea of fighting power
- not just the conceptual- i.e. USARF is good at cheap attrition
- not just the physical element- i.e. this model has this profile and is used in this way (CONTEXT changes it's use and thus its importance).

USAriadna Goes to Cancon 2017

Its time to defend that constitution.
Having whelped this 300 point army, it was time to take it to the big leagues (for me!).

I paid for a ticket and travelled to Canberra for CanCon 2017, Australia's "Nationals" for Infinity and what looked like a tonne of other game systems out there.

By this stage I had played seven games with USA... eight if you count that battle report from 2015... but I was dead keen to enter the beauty pageant!

And if getting punished in 5 games over two days against the best in the country is what it takes to get there then by Jove that's what I'll do....

AAR: INFINITY: 300 Points- Qapu Khalqi vs. USAriadna: ITS2016- Firefight

Credit: LordHayabusa357- "It Gets Harder From Here On Out"
After a massive break from Infinity I have decided to get back into the gaming side of things.  I have booked my ticket for the national tournament in a few months and decided to play a bit more frequently.

I cooked up a list, turned up at a one day tournament a week ago and promptly finished last!  Not the most auspicious start but I was very happy just to roll some dice and move my painted miniatures around a table.

Having broken the seal on Infinity gaming once again I teed up another match at my FLGS and set (what I thought) was a generous time limit of 3hrs.  Tournament games have to be done and dusted in about 90-120min so I figured this was ample timing.

So with a tweaked list (thanks to the help of an experienced USAriadna player) it was time to get cracking!

AAR: INFINITY: 300 Points- Steel Phalanx vs. PanOceania: ITS2016- Safe Area

Credit: Unknown.
It's been a long time between games for me- but even more so for my regular (semi-regular?) gaming group.  So it was my pleasure to host and watch two beautifully painted armies smash into each other in furious combat.

Both armies have had some serious painting done and it was time for the Dragao to take on Achilles in hoplite armour backed up by Hector!

It was set to be a clash of Homeric proportions... and I was not disappointed!

AAR: INFINITY: 300 points- Onyx vs. PanOceania: HS2N3- Rescue

Credit: PARK Jon Wong
With Human Sphere recently released, it was decided to give one of the new scenarios a try.

And it was time to try out Onyx!!!

Sadly, I hadn't painted up my new remotes, Unidron support weapons or even my second Umbra (there's a lot on the painting table!).  So in order to make the 300 point cap it was down to bringing the biggest model I could get...

... the Sphinx!

AAR: Infinity: 300 points- MAF vs. Neoterra: N3- Frontline

Credit: PARK Jong Won

With HSN3 dropping soon, I decided to give the MAF one last hurrah.  It wasn't a tourney list- I just decided to use a few models I haven't touched for a long time.... *cough* Raicho *cough*

I'm really not a fan of bring TAGs- those of you who've followed my MAF batreps know this is far from my 'ideal' list- but this was for fun....

... what?!  We can play Infinity for fun?

To war!!!!

AAR: Infinity: 300 Points: USAriadna vs. PanOceania- ITS2015 Supplies

Credit: Hakeem Rafai
It has been a little while since the last game of Infinity and I was keen on testing out the USAriadna miniatures that I have been painting.

My gaming group was also interested to see how they played as a faction and in my desperate rush to get 300 points onto the table I had do deploy some of my half finished models.  Boo!  The dice gods will punish me I'm sure!

We decided on playing Supplies as it is a reasonably straight forward mission and it proved to be a bloody match!

AAR: INFINITY: 300 points- Combined Army vs. PanOceania: N3- Highly Classified

Credit: Eduardo Gonzalez- "Battle for Yaletown".
It's time to cut the apron strings and try something new.

After spending some time painting some Shasvastii figures it was time to try out the Combined Army properly.

As I steadily painted more figures and rebased my Charontid (for N3) I did some further reading up on the Combined Army forums about its performance on the table top.  The chatter was not encouraging.  Low order pool.  Expensive elite units.  The consensus was that CA is a difficult faction to play.

Did someone just say difficult faction?  So I've moved from Morats to this?!

You're joking right?

Tournament: MOAB 2015: Return of the Morats

I didn't choose the Soglife, the Soglife chose me.
I'm not a big fan of tournaments because I've found myself pretty crappy at tournament style tight games.  I'm much more suited to casual dice rolling and spending lots of time looking up rules without a time limit.

That being said, there was a call for players and with the TO being a fellow club mate I felt obliged to dive in with my alien ultra-facists.

I had two goals at this tournament- win a painting prize AND not come last.

Yes, this same time last year my Morats came dead last!

INFINITY AAR: 200pts- Ariadna vs. Panoceania: Frontline ITS2015

Spetsnaz... (credit: CoD4).
It has been too long since there's been a game of Infinity on this blog.  On this occasion I was lucky enough to host a game for two of my gaming buddies- one of whom has been steadily building an Ariadnan force.  With many weeks of ceaseless painting- it was time to see the force in action!

Ariadna seems to be the faction to beat (in some scenarios anyway) and I was very interested to see the match up.

I pulled up a chair, charged the camera and broke out the popcorn- it was time to be entertained...

AAR: INFINITY: 300 points- PanOceania vs. Ariadna: N3- Biotechnovore

Cultural learnings of PanOceania for make benefit for Glorious Country of Ariadna
I confess... I've been a bit Infinity'd out lately.

Lots of games- predominantly resulting in dreadful drubbings for the Morats- had left me steadily drained of any enthusiasm to play.  And with no new Morat releases arrived as yet, the painting table has been occupied with 28mm Moderns and Space Marines.

We had a gaming meet recently and despite my Morats getting their usual dose of crushing defeat- I have to say I had a very good time!  I was also lucky enough to be able to watch a game as well, so on with the reporting!

AAR: INFINITY: 200 points- Combined Army vs. ALEPH Steel Phalanx: N3- Supremacy

"As we reach for the farthest of stars, total annihilation is upon us."
It has been some time since my small gaming group had played a game of Infinity.

As part of the motivation to get our painting completed we had penned in this occasion as a welcome party for the newly painted models.

I have been dabbling a bit with the vanilla Combined Army lately and my friend had just finished some Myrmidons- so it was decided... to battle!

AAR: INFINITY: 400pts- MAF vs. Yu-Jing: N3- Armoury

Yu-Jing
With the daunting prospect of my first tournament at 400 points looming, I went looking for some practice games.

Luckily, one of the guys at the local gaming club indulged me with a match.  He brought along his Yu-Jing- an army I had never faced before.  Another plus!  With the advent of N3, Yu-Jing is the Heavy Infantry faction.

And just remind me, what was it with which I had such big problems?

Camo?  And- oh yes- multi-wound Heavy Infantry!

This was going to be interesting....

AAR: INFINITY: 200 points- MAF vs. Neoterran Capitaline Army: N3- Supremacy

Now we're cheaper!
With N3 having just been released, it was time to get a few games under the belt.

And lift the quality of battle-reporting with the hair-pulling and teeth gnashing experience that is GIMP.

MOAB 2014: Is This Real Life? Serious Tournament Play In ITS2014

300 points ITS Spec Ops 12XP
This will be primarily a picture dump with a bit of editorialising as things come to mind.

And to keep you out of your suspense... I came dead last!

AAR: Infinity: 300 Points: ALEPH vs. Neoterran Capitaline Army: ITS2014- Supply Run

Battle ready!
I was lucky enough to be able to observe and report on a batrep from my gaming group between two fantastically painted armies at another FLGS.

I won't blather on too much- on with the reporting!

Tournament: Total Reaction 3: "The Return of the Combined Army"

Fun times ahead!
This is a departure from my usual blogposts in that it has my first Infinity tournament experience!

It was 250 points (two lists) but no Spec-Ops on ITS2014 variants.

It was held in Melbourne, Australia at the LaTrobe University campus.  It was superbly run and fantastically furnished with terrain (which if I'm not mistaken was generously trucked in and set up by many individuals donating their time and gear!)

Special thanks to the tournament organisers: Christian, Asher and Damien.  I was very impressed with how well it was organised, run and concluded (hilarious awards included!).

AAR: INFINITY: 300 points- MAF vs. Neoterran Capitaline Army: ITS2014- Antenna Field

We come from a land down-under...
This was a friendly game at another FLGS.  We were itching to try some higher points games and also some of the other ITS2014 scenarios.

Having never played Antenna Field we thought it would be an excellent change from "kill em all" games that the YAMS games had lately degenerated into.  It turned into a great game and I hope you enjoy the following batrep.

My opponent brought along his beautifully painted Neoterran Capitaline Army and the humans were keen for a scrap with my band of marauding Morats!

Oh, by the way, be warned that there are proxied miniatures in this batrep.  Anyone who is easily offended by not seeing WYSIWYG miniatures or by seeing non-CB miniatures in a game of Infinity then this isn't the post for you.

So, now that you've been thoroughly warned....
