Kornak Gazarot

Superior Warrior Officer... you had better believe it!
I finally finished Kornak.

In my adventures with the Morats in N2- Kornak was absolutely invaluable.  The Strategos Level 1 proved very useful and although I was pretty cautious with him- his Mk12 and NWI make him a tough nut to crack.

"Worlds Will Burn": Ko-Dali

Queen of the Zerg
This has to be my most favourite model of the Combined Army so far.  (Excluding the Morats of course).

The colour scheme worked out well and the model is fantastic.

She will definitely serve as the template for the new CA models being released this month.

The Exrah That Never Was: Vector HMG

Seen battle once... now retired.

Now with Exrah being retired- this little fellow will be a piece of history.

Daturazi 2.0: Sulla

No more pony tails... mind blown.
I finally finished the last Daturazi today.

Despite his silly pose- holding his rifle one handed- he is a good sculpt with plenty of detailing.

Charontid HMG: Harbringer

I am the vanguard of your destruction.
The Charontid is a heavy infantry model that comes with the very useful MSV Level 3.  This makes him ideal for hunting camoflauge markers and ODD troops that have been the bane of my existence since I picked up the Morat Sectorial.

Like the Skiavoros- he is cursed with glowing muscles- making him laborious to paint.  However, once completed- he doesn't look too bad.

Skiavoros: Sovereign

Plasma rifle.
I've started experimenting with the Combined Army and the Skiavoros was the first miniature I painted.  The challenge in the painting is in keeping a unified palette on such varied models.

This model I'll use as my Lieutenant.  With a plasma rifle and Ghost Mnemonica- he is an expendable Lieutenant who can take the fight to the enemy.

Daturazi 2.0: Virtus

Training that functional fitness- since yesterday.
My latest finished model- Virtus.

"Virtus" means "manly character" and was one of the most important traits a Roman man could have.  And considering that Virtus has as much free testosterone as a thousand weight lifters in the local gym, the name is quite apt.

A faction that sees itself as imperium sine fine- an empire without end- they must prize the masculine ethos highly.

Daturazi 2.0: Ischomachus

I pottered away on this guy over the course of a week- thinking he'd be a little bit easier since he isn't carrying a fire arm.  In fact, it just allowed me to distract myself even more with pointless internet browsing.  Next time I paint- I'll have to command that time and force myself to paint solidly instead of foolishly responding to click bait.

Ischomachus is an individual mentioned in Xenophon's ancient text "The Economist".  And whilst being a man of wisdom, he's also been on that bulk time too!

Daturazi 2.0: Aristophanes

Snap City?  I'm from Muscleville!!!
I've had this box of Daturazi sitting on my desk for months now and not been motivated to paint at all.  But after hearing about the new improved shotgun rules I decided to get some shotgun toting models ready for N3.

MOAB 2014: Is This Real Life? Serious Tournament Play In ITS2014

300 points ITS Spec Ops 12XP
This will be primarily a picture dump with a bit of editorialising as things come to mind.

And to keep you out of your suspense... I came dead last!

Yaogat Panzerfausts: Bonus Edition

Does anybody even lift?
Despite being incredibly scrawny compared to the latest releases of the Morat Aggression Force, Yaogat Infantry hold a special place in my heart.  Maybe it's something to do with the way panzerfausts blew apart the first TAG I came up against or that MSV2 renders ALEPH's ODD useless.  Either way, in high points games I find them indispensible.

My only problem is that having bought one box on Yaogats meant I only had 2 sets of panzerfausts.  And the added problem of one obvious Lieutenant choice despite being such value for points (and SWC!).

Solution?  Impulse buy another box of Yaogats!

AAR: INFINITY: 300 points: MAF vs. NCA: ITS2014- Frontline

MAF
This game actually preceded the NCA vs. ALEPH game.

It started on a really good note.  As we were getting terrain ready, a little blue model fell out of one of the buildings and into my hand.  On closer inspection it was Bipandra!  The model who'd been missing from my mate's collection for over a month.  A very happy Neoterran force welcomed her back.  Angus would be relegated to Fusilier duty and Bipandra would return to the gaming table.

For my own force, I had spent a recent weekend rebasing my TAG and the old Sogarat.  It was a painful ordeal.  The models fell to bits.  Paint was chipped off.  Superglue fumes encrusted the paintwork in white frost.  It was an exercise in frustration.  Why rebase models that never get used?!

Because one day... one day... they'll get their time in the sun.

And the Raicho's time has come!

AAR: Infinity: 300 Points: ALEPH vs. Neoterran Capitaline Army: ITS2014- Supply Run

Battle ready!
I was lucky enough to be able to observe and report on a batrep from my gaming group between two fantastically painted armies at another FLGS.

I won't blather on too much- on with the reporting!

Tournament: Total Reaction 3: "The Return of the Combined Army"

Fun times ahead!
This is a departure from my usual blogposts in that it has my first Infinity tournament experience!

It was 250 points (two lists) but no Spec-Ops on ITS2014 variants.

It was held in Melbourne, Australia at the LaTrobe University campus.  It was superbly run and fantastically furnished with terrain (which if I'm not mistaken was generously trucked in and set up by many individuals donating their time and gear!)

Special thanks to the tournament organisers: Christian, Asher and Damien.  I was very impressed with how well it was organised, run and concluded (hilarious awards included!).

Raktorak: Scipio

Did I dun goofed?  Hold me Misc.
This was a bit of a impulse buy at the FLGS.  It's a Raktorak- a Sergeant Major- who currently doesn't get a lot (if any) play time.  Hopefully the rules will improve for him as he is an exceptional looking model!

I was in a mad rush to complete him as he will stand in as 'Kornak Gazarot' for an upcoming tournament.

Edit: Photobucket is not working well today- thumbnails OK- links not working.  Sorry!

Modern Combat: Two British Riflemen

So apparently in the bright neon future of the 3rd Millenium, there is only war....
Another two Empress miniatures finished this week and needing some photographic treatment.

The squad is coming along nicely now with now 5 figures ready to shoot down some Zeds!

Suryat HMG: "Aeneas"

Just logged in to lol at autistic potato
My latest Infinity purchase- finally painted and ready for table top playing!

It is a Suryat- Morat heavy infantry- wearing stripped down armour for jungle warfare.  I was so excited to paint this figure I assembled it completely before painting- and once again found it was a total pain in the angus to get into the nooks and crannies.  Note to self: paint in parts and *then* assemble.

AAR: INFINITY: 300 points- MAF vs. Neoterran Capitaline Army: ITS2014- Antenna Field

We come from a land down-under...
This was a friendly game at another FLGS.  We were itching to try some higher points games and also some of the other ITS2014 scenarios.

Having never played Antenna Field we thought it would be an excellent change from "kill em all" games that the YAMS games had lately degenerated into.  It turned into a great game and I hope you enjoy the following batrep.

My opponent brought along his beautifully painted Neoterran Capitaline Army and the humans were keen for a scrap with my band of marauding Morats!

Oh, by the way, be warned that there are proxied miniatures in this batrep.  Anyone who is easily offended by not seeing WYSIWYG miniatures or by seeing non-CB miniatures in a game of Infinity then this isn't the post for you.

So, now that you've been thoroughly warned....

Imetrons

Imetrons
They were sitting on my desk so I painted them.

They can't be used in the Morat Sectorial so they'll be 'crates' or 'flags' for YAMS games or scenario play.

T-Drone: Tobias

Toby
I just finished this miniature today- and it'll probably end up being used as the FO variant rather than the missile launcher one.

Sunday, July 13, 2014

Q-Drone: "Nemo"

It's dangerous to go alone- take this spoon.
Having heard many musings on the internet about the utility of Drones in the Combined Army- I thought I'd paint one up.

First off- it was a total chit to put together.  The rear fins, the arms, the tenatcles and the horns were an utter pain in the angus to apply and then to make them stick.  In fact, despite copious amounts of araldyte and Zap-a-Gap, some of them are still loose!  I'm dreading the day when this model tips over and the components go whizzing across the table.

Morat Vanguard Sniper: Cato

Misc, am I gonna make it? [SRS]... pls respect SRS tag!
The last model of the Vanguard SWC box.

A story of tragedy- a fantastic model... over priced, poor stats and generally sub par when compared against anyone else... I doubt he'll ever make the table top.

However, people have said that about that theoretical double Raicho list and I'm determined that it sees the light of day, so maybe there's hope for this little guy just yet.

Morat Vanguard Hacker (New Version): Seneca 2.0

Total natty, creatine not even once
Finally got this figure finished after two weeks of being snowed under by work.

He was a little bit more complex to paint compared to the other SWC figures in that box but overall he came out quite well so I'm glad.

Vanguard Missile Launcher: Thucydides

U mirin?  U better be...
I have found my Morats lack a bit of long ranged punch.  Especially when I go up against multi-wound heavy infantry link teams of the Haqqislam variety.

Thucydides is here to correct that!

He's been working out hard- so hard I think he's been afflicted by the "Invisible Lats Syndrome"!  But if he does his job, I'm sure his mates will forgive him.

Morat Vanguard HMG (New Version): Bacchus 2.0

Neg cannons at the ready...
This is the first miniature of the Morat SWC box set that I completed.

He is carrying a HMG that looks very different to the old style one.  The sculpt is great!  I love the new look.

AAR: Infinity: 250 points- MAF vs. ALEPH: ITS2014- Quadrant Control

I want your boots, your keys and your motorcycle...

This was a friendly (re)-match at my local gaming club.

It had two goals: 1) Try out my first stab at a 250point ITS list and 2) Gain greater familiarity with ITS scenarios.

My opponent was the same gentleman who played against me in the last match.  He had tweaked his list and was keen to see how he'd go with a few more orders in his pool.  And just like a fortnight ago- he brought a big bag of chips!  Yummy!!!!

Without further ado, let's get into it shall we?

Ikadron: Ingham- The Other Robot Chicken

Better colour scheme
It looks a bit better- mostly because I changed some key points of the colour scheme.

In summary- the new paint scheme consists of more black and less green.

Monday, June 9, 2014

Ikadron: Steggles- the Robot Chicken

Book!  Book!  Book!  Book!  Book!
This is an Ikadron.

It's a Combined Army droid.  It's job is to carry baggage which I haven't quite worked out how it affects the game.  It's other job is to be like an EI enforcer to keep the aggressive Morats from killing their erstwhile alien allies.

It also looks like a chicken.

A 9 point regular order generating chicken....

Infinity AAR: 300 Points: MAF vs. ALEPH: ITS2014- Quadrant Control

ALEPH

Hello again!

It's been a long time since my last post as real life finally caught up with me.  I have, however, finally got my painting on and lined up a game at my local gaming club.  It was a friendly match to work out a few more rules issues and get more familiar with the ITS format.

Without any further ado....

Morat Vanguard (New Version): Quintus 2.0

I'll wreck u m8!
I finished my last model from the Morat Starter Set today.

It is another Vanguard model- upgrading the last of my old combi-rifle Vanguards to the new version.

Saturday, April 26, 2014

Morat Vanguard (New Version): Trajan 2.0

Looking for a dropped coin
I wasn't going to paint these guys since I already have the old version Vanguards.

That being said I was stretching the budget for themonth and my lead pile is still as enormous as ever.  So meet Trajan 2.0!

Rasyat with Spitfire: Sophocles

U wot m8?!
I'm glad that dealing with this miniature is over.

He's fine looking, but he was a pain to paint.  I had to paint him in his separate parts before assembling to try and get all the hard to reach bits.

Having never mastered the skill of aerial deployment I can't say how good Rasyats can be on the table top.  It's something I'll have to persist with.  And hopefully they won't get an ARO shot to the face for their trouble.

Treitak: Anyat

All men are mortal.
I completed this model this morning.

"Anyat" is a Special Character for the Morat sectorial from the Dire Foes Mission Pack.

She's a spec-ops character- so she can do ITS objectives- and most awesomely, she carries K1 ammunition.  After a few encounters with enemy armour, I've learned to appreciate the power of armour piercing (or in this case- armour negating) firepower.

Completed MAS Building

Finally finished....
I finally completed this monstrosity last week.

This is a Micro Arts Studio MDF building which a friend of mine asked me to help him to complete.  I didn't envisage it turning into an extravaganza- but it did!

After hold ups with getting paints and other Real Life hiccups, it is now ready for varnishing.

Treitak Spec-Ops: Polybius

I'll eat every chicken in this room....
I finished my Treitak today.  I have named him Polybius.

I don't think I'll run him too regularly since I've lately taken to play low points YAMS games with friends.  He will however be a requirement for some upcoming ITS tournaments.  The ITS tournaments typically require a Spec-Ops character with 12XP to spend- so he will fill this model niche very nicely!

Saturday, April 5, 2014

Raktorak: Belisarius

OP's gone full potato
I finished off this model today with the aim of putting him into a Sogarat link team.  Yes, it may be a bad idea- but just like the double Raicho lists (at 300 points)- it has to be put to the test and documented so other bright sparks can use it as a point of reference.

And I have a fondness for the absurd....

Das it mane: Sogarat: Herotodus

Das it mane.  Das it.
I finished the Sogarat from the new Morat starter box today.

Covered head to toe in power armour and toting a feuerbach he is a mean looking addition to the MAF!  His main job will be hunting down enemy armour.  His secondary role will be to provide AROs.  The feuerbach being double action and armour piercing, it will hopefully punish any figure foolish enough to walk into sight.

Zerat Hacker: Calonice

Swiping away an annoying insect
This has to be by least favourite miniature by far.

The sculpt is OK, but it was my rushed assembly that spoiled it.  Here and there are spots of araldyte and dried superglue that I could not scrape off with my hobby knife before painting.  It was not a very good start.

Friday, March 21, 2014

Zerat Special Mission Regiment: Antigone

Scout with sniper rifle
The Zerats are a scouting force.

In game terms, they are a useful addition to the Morat Aggression Force because they allow deployment into the middle of the board.  This makes them quite useful for objective snatching.

They aren't particularly dangerous models, but the -3 to hit modifier from Mimetism does make them difficult to winkle out of cover.

Empress Miniatures: Gunner with MAG58

Carrying a MAG58 variant
The gun has a cut down barrel.

I like the look of the camouflage on this guy better than the last shotgun toting miniature,

The main difference was that I painted all the base colours, the 'dashes' and then washed the whole thing in Athonian Camoshade.  I then did a few dashes in VMC Ivory to finish off the cam.  Then a light drybrush of VMC Buff finished it off.

Monday, March 17, 2014

The Oznat: Lysistrata

Looking down at something.
This is an Oznat and I have named her "Lysistrata".

She was an absolute pain to put together and tricky to paint.  I'm glad it is over and look forward to using her in a game.  More specifically, turning the 5 point Pretas into 5 point REGULAR order contributors.  Of course, when that happens, these cheap throw away units will become more protected than the pampered pooches of the rich and famous!

Modern Combat: Empress Miniatures: British Infantryman

Testing, testing...
I haven't always been into science fiction- I dabbled a bit in historical war gaming too.

I've had a sections worth of UK infantry I bought almost 2 years ago from Empress Miniatures and it's been sitting on my desk for ages.  My stumbling block was I never knew how to paint Multicam- a dastardly scheme that makes 28mm miniatures look like blobs.

And being distinctly unimpressed with my latest Infinity miniature foray, I thought I'd take a quick break and test paint one of these historicals.

Daturazi: Justinian

Dark, knife wielding space monkey.
My latest model to be completed.  This Daturazi is the second model in the blister of two old style Dats.

He actually looks more like a very malicious thug than a soldier.  Thematically, the Dats seem to me to be a cadre apart from the Morat army.  They harken back to the violent primordial soup that the Morats clawed their way out of- just meshed with comlogs carelessly tossed their way by the Ur Rationalists.  Now admittedly the rest of the Morat society hadn't advanced much further, but Dats definitely give off that primitive, warrior look.

The fluff doesn't say a lot about the society of the Morats and how it sits under the umbrella of the Ur Rationalists.  From what I can tell, the Morats are fascistic, totalitarian, xenophobic (quite literally) and utterly committed to the virtue of might is right.  How such a society survives is a bit of a mystery- but we'll put that up to the artistic license of writers.

Daturazi: Caligula

Big guns for carrying big guns.
I've taken a break from painting the MAS building because I've run out of primer!!!

There was a rumour going around that the Daturazi models are going to be replaced, so I did a mad rush to the local gaming store to make sure I got a copy of the current Daturazis.  I'm a big believer in  uniformity and having different style Dats upsets my sense of order.

MAS Building- Level G

I would not live in this place
This is a building I am fixing up for a friend.

It is a 3 level MAS building from Micro Art Studios.

I got carried away and started painting it like a model... and have found I've bitten off a bit more than I can chew.

Saturday, February 22, 2014

Infinity AAR: 300 points: Morat Aggression Force vs. Caledonian Highlander Army: "Green Valley Contact"

This was a 300 point friendly game at the local gaming club pitting my MAF against a soft-ish Caledonian Highlander Army.

I was getting coached along by my opponent- and a very savvy player at that!

I'll try to include the key points in the write up so everyone who reads this will get some "ahhhh!" factor out of the batrep.

Friday, February 21, 2014

Morat Armored Brigade Raicho: "Mithras"

HGL ready
Yes, Raicho are AVA2 for the Morat Sectorial Army.

And no one should have to fight alone.

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Medtech Obsidon Medchanoid: "Galen"

Trust me, I'm a Doctor….
… also known as Doctor Worm.

Like the Slave Drones, he was a bit annoying to paint- but I'm glad I didn't succumb and dry brush him.
